Grand Rapids, Michigan

Grand Rapids is the largest city in Michigan and the county seat of Kent County. Grand Rapids is a historic furniture manufacturing facility home to five of the world's leading office furniture companies and is called " Furniture City". Other nicknames include "River City" and "Beer City," the latter of USA Today [6], which later adopted the "Grand Rapids" brand. The city skyline features the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Pantlind, which reopened in 1981 after extensive renovations by Marvin DeWinter Associates. Grand Rapids was the childhood home of the US President Gerald Ford, who is buried along with his wife Betty at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids.

The works included the addition of a 29-storey glass tower that offers panoramic views of the city, the river and the surrounding area. The original architect of the Pantlind Hotels, Warren Wetmore, was inspired by the work of Scottish neoclassical architect Robert Adam.

During its heyday, the Pantlind Hotel was rated as one of the ten best hotels in the USA. It is owned by Amway Hotel Collection, a subsidiary of Amways Holding Alticor. Other prominent large buildings include the J.W. Marriott Grand Rapids, the first JW Marriott hotel in the Midwest. The hotel has several Grand Rapids restaurants, including Cygnus.

It is themed around the cityscapes of Grand Rapids "twin towns of Omihachiman (Japan), Bielsko-Biala (Poland), Perugia (Italien), as well as the GA district (Ghana) and Zapopan (Mexico. The cities are distributed alternately on 23 floors. Each floor of the hotel features photographs from one of the cities on a unique floor. When the hotel opened, Amway Hotel Corporation photographer Dan Watts hired to travel to the cities and photograph them for the hotel.

The tallest building in the city (dated to the photo above) are the River House Condominiums. Completed in 2008, the 34-story (1,238 m) residential tower is the tallest residential building in the state of Michigan. Grand Rapids has two major urban nature centers. The Calvin Ecosystem Preserve and Native Gardens, operated on the southeast side of the city by Calvin University, includes 18 hectares of publicly accessible nature trails, 24 hectares of restricted access, a wildlife reserve, a bunker and an interpretive centre that hosts university courses and educational programs for the general public. It is 42 hectares. With 107 hectares, Blandford is one of the largest urban nature centers in the United States.

Under the influence of the DeVos family, many buildings are named after their members. These facilities have attracted many health science companies to Western Michigan. Grand Rapids is also a center of furniture manufacturing.

The manufacturer of office furniture such as American Seating, Steelcase (through its subsidiary Coalesse / Turnstone ), Haworth and Herman Miller are all in the Grand Rapids area. The town is also known as the centre of Christian publishing and is home to Zondervan, Baker Books, Kregel Publications, Eerdmans Publishing and Our Daily Bread Ministries. The area is known for its automotive and aerospace industries, with GE Aviation Systems located in the city. The region is also home to a number of well-known companies, including Alticor, Amway, a multi-tier marketing company; Bissell, which makes vacuum cleaners and floor care products; Highlight Industries, an industry leader in stretch film, Spartanash, a food and grocery chain; First First First, a leading insurance company with specialty insurance companies; Meijer, a regional supermarket chain; GE Aviation, Smith & Industry, an aerospace company; Wolverine World, a designer and The area is known for its fruit production.
