Milford, Michigan

The village of Milford is located in southwest Oakland County and is accessible from I-96 (M-59). With a population of about 6,300 inhabitants, it is served by a central business district with about 25,000 people in the area. A thriving downtown district attracts visitors from towns like Ann Arbor and Dearborn while retaining its small-town charm.

The village has six parks within its borders. Central Park on the banks of the Huron River is a popular spot for children and teenagers to enjoy playgrounds, basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball courts and an ice rink. Adjacent to the Senior Center, Fairgrounds Park offers easy access to picnic and shuffleboard areas. Hubbell Pond Park is the home of the YMCA and library and a system of pathways runs along Commerce Road to Kensington Park on the South Milford Road.

At the 2010 census, 6,175 people, 2,589 households and 1,719 families lived in the village. The population density was 25,412 inhabitants per square mile (9,812 / km2). There were 2.77 residential units with an average density of 1,114.28 square miles (4,412 km2).

There were 2,589 households, of which 31.4% had children under 18 years old, 49.9% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a housekeeper without a husband, 32% had male housekeepers without a wife and 33.6% were non-family. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 3.93. The ethnic composition of the village was 95.7% white, 0.6% African-American, 0.6% Native American, -0.7% Asian, + 0.3% other races and 17% two or more races. Hispanics or Latinos of any race made up 2.0% of the population.

The average age in the village was 40.8 years. The gender of the community was 47.4% male and 52.6% female.

At the 2000 census, 6,272 people, 2,427 households and 1,706 families lived in the village. The population density was 25,607 per square mile (9,884 / km2). There were 2,491 residential units with an average density of 3,926 km2.

There were 2,427 households, of which 383 had children under the age of 18, 550 were married couples living together, 127 had a housekeeper without a husband and 297 were non-family. The ethnic composition of the village consisted of 973.5% whites, 0.16% African Americans, -0.38% Native Americans, + 0.49% Asians, -1.35% other races and 1.26% of two or more races. Hispanics or Latinos of any race made up 1.32% of the population.

The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.09. The village population was distributed: 28.6% among 18 to 64 years old, 18 to 24 years old, 33.0% to 25 years old, 44 to 21.6%, 45 to 64 years old and 10.4% who were 65 years old or older. The median age was 35. For every 100 women, there were 91.2 men. For every 100 women under 18, there were 83.9 men.

The median income per household in the village was $59,688 and the median income of a family was $71,333. Men had a median income of $53,393 compared to $31,935 for women. The city's per capita income was $26,159. Etwa 6.5% of households and 7.2% of the population - including 13.0% of those under 18 and 2.4% of those over 65 - lived below the poverty line.
