Web Design in Ingham County, Michigan

Ingham County is a county in the US state of Michigan. The population of the 2010 census was 28,098.95.

The county includes Michigan State University, Lansing Community College and the minor league baseball team, the Lansing Lugnuts. Lansing, the state capital of Michigan, is located in the county. The county is considered part of Mid-Michigan. It is part of the Greater Lansing-East Lansing statistical area. Lansing is the seat of the Freemasons.

Ingham County was established on October 29, 1829 by a Michigan Territorial Legislature Act from parts of Shiawassee County and Washtenaw County as an unorganized territory. It was attached to Washtenaws County for administrative purposes in 1838, and a county government was established for the county. According to the US Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,450 km2, of which 1,440 km2 are land and 12 km2 are water. The county consists of rolling hills with heights between 800 and 1,000 feet above sea level. The highest point in the county is at the top of Spoonful Hill, which rises to 1,056 feet below sea level, about 15 miles east of Leslie.

The Grand River winds north along the western border of the county and the Red Cedar River flows west along the northern portion of the river near Lansing. Most of the central part of the county flows north into the Rededar River, while the northern part of the municipalities flows south into the river. Sycamore Creek, which flows out of the river north of Lansing, drains much of that area. The southeast corner joins the Huron River, Portage Creek, Portage River and a number of small lakes to the southeast. Most of southern Ingham County flows west into the Grand River.

At the 2010 census [11], 280,895 people, 111,162 households and 62,574 families lived in the county. The population density was 5,023 people per square mile (1,939 / km2). There were 121,281 residential units with an average density of 2,168 per square mile (837 / km 2).

At the census 2000, there were 108,593 households of which 29.80% had children under 18 years old, 43.00% were married couples living together, 12.10% had a housekeeper without a husband and 41.30% were non-families.

The ethnic composition of the county was 76.2% white, 11.8% black or African-American, 0.6% Indian, 5.2% Asian (0.04% Pacific Islanders), 2.3% of other races and 4.0% of two or more races. According to the American Community Survey 2007-2010, 22,8% were German, 13.2% Irish, 1.25% English and 5.6% Polish descent.

The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 3.04. In the county, 23.40% of the population were younger than 18 years, 18.50% were 18-24 years old, 28.60% were 25-44 years old and in 2010, 45% were 64 years old and 94.0% were 65 years or older. The median age was 30. For every 100 women, there were 93.30 men. For every 100 women under 18, there were 90.10 men.

The median income of a household was $40,774 in the county and the median income of a family was $53,063. Men had a median income of $41,335 compared to $30,178 for women. The county's per capita income was $21,079. Some 83.0% of families and 14.60% of the population lived below the poverty line, including 14%. 60% of under-18s and 66.0% of over-65s.
