Hartland, Michigan

Hartland Township is a civilian community in Livingston County, Michigan. The village has about 2,500 inhabitants.

At the 2010 census, there were 14,663 inhabitants, up from 10,996 at the 2000 census.

The community is located in eastern Livingston County and borders Oakland County to the east. Hartland Living is a cooperative working relationship consisting of Partners in Progress, the Library, the Chamber of Commerce and the Township schools. The partners embody the Hartland Area Project's emphasis on the need to work together to bring about positive change. Together, the partners are working on a shared vision of life in Hartland that inspires a better quality of life, attracts and celebrates new businesses and families, making Hartland a place to call home.

US Route 23 crosses the township as a four-lane highway accessed from Exit 67 of Highway M-59 and Exit 70 on Clyde Road. It leads from the south 45 miles to Flint and about the same distance to Ann Arbor. M-59 crosses the city of Hartland Village and leads east for 39 km, to Pontiac and west for 16 km, through Howell, the seat of Livingston County.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city of 9.66 km2 has a total area of 9.69 km2, 9.29 km2 of land and 3.7 km2 of water. The northern half of the community drains north to the Ore Creek and Shiawassee Rivers, which lead to Saginaw Bay, while the southern half drains south to Erzbach and Huron Rivers which lead to Lake Erie. At the 2000 census, 10,996 people, 3,696 households and 3,108 families lived in the commune. The population density was 3,025 per square mile (1,168 / km2).

There were 3,696 households, of which 44.3% had children under 18, 75.1% were married couples living together, 6.2% had a housekeeper without a husband and 15.9% were non-family. The ethnic composition of the township was 99.94% white, 0.27% African-American, -0.30% Indian, + 0.37% Asian, -1.25% of other races and 0.86% of two or more races. Hispanics or Latinos of any race made up 1.11% of the population. There were 39.08 residential units with an average density of 10.75 per square mile (4.15 / km2).

The average household size was 2.96 and the average family size was 3.24. In the commune the population was distributed: 30.4% under 18 years, 6.1% between 18 and 24 years, 31.3% between 25 and 44 years, 25.0% between 45 and 64 years and 73% who were 65 years or older. The median age was 36. For every 100 women over 18, there were 98.2 men. There were 100 females for every 99.4 males.

The median income of a household in the municipality was $75,908 and the median income of a family was $79,524. Men had a median income of $60,097 compared to $36,662 for women. The city's per capita income was $28,971. Some 12% of families and 17% of the population lived below the poverty line, including 19% under 18 and 57% of those over 65
