LIVINGSTON County is a county in the US state of Michigan. It is part of the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn metropolitan area. At the 2010 census, the population stood at 180,967. The county seat and most populous town is Howell.

As one of Michigan Cabinet County Counties, a group of ten counties named in honor of members of President Andrew Jackson's cabinet, the county was named after former State Secretary Edward Livingston. Livingston County was founded in 1833, but remained assigned to Shiawassee and Washtenaw counties for revenue, taxes and court matters for three years. The county was founded in 1836.

Livingston County's location in southeastern Michigan provides residents with convenient access to Detroit, Lansing, Ann Arbor and Flint. Although the county continues to consist mainly of bedroom communities, it has experienced and maintained considerable growth in the service and industrial sectors. Major employers include PepsiCo, Citizens Insurance and Thaisummit.

Livingston County residents commute to the subways via three major expressways that run through the District: I-96, US 23 and M-59. The recreation area of Brighton is in the county.

At the 2000 census there were 1,980,967 people, 55,384 households and 43,531 families. Of those, 39.80% had living children under 18 years old with them, 68.50% were married couples living together, 68.0% had a housekeeper without husband and 21.40% were non-family. The population density was 320 people per square mile (107 / km2).

There were 5,891.9 residential units with an average density of 104 / square mile (40 / km2).

The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.18. The median age was 36.

For every 100 women under 18, there were 99.70 men. For every 100 females there were 102.10 males.

Men had a median income of $54,358 compared to $32,073 for women. Median household income in 2008 was $67,400, and estimated median family income was $72,700.

Livingston County is one of the highest-in-earning counties in the United States, with Michigan's second highest median income following Oakland. But per capita income was $28,069. Some 24.0% of families and 34.4% of the population lived below the poverty line, including 36.0% of those under 18 and 45.5% of those over 65.

More than 50 percent of the county's population lives in the southeastern towns of Brighton Township, Genoa Township, Hamburg Township, Green Oak Township, the villages of Pinckney and Putnam Township and the town of Brighton.

In 2000, the US Census Bureau identified Brighton, Howell and the nearby town of South Lyon as urbanized areas, one of the youngest such areas in the United States. In the 2019 population estimate table, the Census Bureau gives an estimate of 19,1995 residents for the county in 2019.
