Kent County is located in the US state of Michigan. The county is part of the Grand Rapids-Kentwood metropolitan area, which is the economic and manufacturing hub of West Michigan. At the time of the 2010 census, Kent County had 6,026,622 residents, [2] making it the most populous county in Michigan.
It also houses Frederik Meijer Gardens, a major cultural landmark in the Midwest. Gerald R. Ford International Airport is Kent County's main regional and international air traffic hub.
Although a massive republican stronghold, the Democratic Party has received increasing support since the 2000s with Grand Rapids and nearby suburbs supporting Democrats and rural areas supporting Republicans. In 2012 and 2016, Republican candidate Mitt Romney and Donald Trump carried the district while Democratic candidate Joe Biden won Kent County with the largest margin since 1964.
At the time of the census [22] in 2000 574,335 people (21,890 households, 144,126 families) lived in the county. In 2010, 62,622 people lived in Kent County in the United States.
The current population estimate is 604,323. The population density is 6.71 people per square mile (2.59 / km2). There are 224,000 residential units with an average density of 2.62 per square mile (1.01 / km2).
The ethnic composition of the county was 83.13% white, 8.93% black or African-American, 0.52% Indian, 1.86% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islanders, 3.34% of other races and 2.16% of two or more races. There were 212,890 households, of which 35.80% had children under the age of 18, 52.30% were married couples living together, 11.60% had a housekeeper without a husband and 3.230% were non-family.
The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.20. The age distribution in the district was as follows: 28.30% under 18 years, 10.50% between 18 and 24 years, 31.20% between 25 and 44 years, 19.70% between 45 and 64 years and 10.40% who were 65 years or older. The median age was 32.
For every 100 women, there were 96.90 men. Out of 100 women aged 18 and over, 93.70 were male. For every 100 females, there were 91.90 males.
The median household income in the county was $45,980 and the median household income was $54,770. Men had a median income of $39,878 compared to $27,364 for women. The county's per capita income was $21,629.
